Since this is the first movie review, I’ll start by saying we will try our hardest to avoid any spoilers. Everyone does reviews off movies as they came into theaters, why not do it when they get released to DVD too?
I went in to seeing this movie with very low expectations. I saw it as a cheesy comedy taking advantage of the cast’s recent popularity in movies like Superbad and Knocked up. I figured it would be a slightly entertaining 112 minutes.
To be honest, the plot with this movie is nothing phenomenal. Peter (Jason Segel) gets dumped by his famous girlfriend, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), and acts like a little bitch for quite a while. He finally decides to go on vacation in Hawaii to gather himself, and lo’ and behold his girlfriend is there with her new boyfriend a famous musician, Aldous Snow (Russell Brand). Things gradually get worse for him as he has to deal with that the love of his life being with a raging douchebag. Don’t worry things eventually turn up for him when he meets Rachel Jansen (Mila Kunis). Surprisingly her role is not unbearably annoying for once.
The acting in the movie is superb. Not having seen Segel in a lead role before, I was surprised by how well he played the role. I always loved his work playing supporting / minor roles in movies like Knocked Up and Slackers. Kunis plays her first likable role ever and Jonah Hill and Snow add the necessary comedy to keep you laughing the whole time.
Verdict:
Acting: 10
Great chemistry between the actors that all play their role to a T.
Plot: 7
The plot is nothing new and predictable, but they managed to add a few subplots to spice up the comedy.
Entertainment: 10
You will be laughing the entire time.
Overall: 9
Definitely worth the money to own once hits DVD in September.
