Scars on Broadway: They Say & Chemicals

Scars on Broadway comprised of former System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan have released two songs and a video in preparation of their upcoming self-titled debut release. The first single is titled, “They Say”.  So first, I’ll throw up the video so you can watch it before I give my thoughts on the single.

I like it. Not in love with it, not absolutely crazy about it, but I like it. Being a huge System of a Down fan I’m trying to come at this without bias, so I may be a little harsher than I should be. The song is a little, well, plain. The guitar and drums are nothing special. John is an amazing drummer and the song just lacks that crazy energy he threw into the old SoaD songs. Every System of a Down song had a drum solo, and the drums on this song were mediocre, it got the job done but no flare. It seems like they are holding back, they knew they wanted this to be their lead single, and wanted to appeal to a wide audience. Daron is a crazy mofo (personality-wise) and John is crazy on the drums but this song definitely seems like they are holding back. With that being said, I still like the song, a tad disappointing, but still a fairly solid song worth many listens.

Here is their next song that they released, Chemicals.

Scars on Broadway – Chemicals

Now this song is everything is that They Say isn’t. Here is the good ol’ crazy Daron were used to. Right away the song grabs your attention, “when I said FUCK your mom”. Rapid transitions and uncensored lyrics. This song is what Scars on Broadway will be about. No holding back here, Daron unleashes a full wave of schizophrenia into the listener’s ears.

when I say, “Fuck the world!”
let’s get ready to rock,
as I piss on your face while you suck on my cock

I love the transitions into the chorus. Scars on Broadway is showing their true colors in this song. In interviews Daron mentions Scars will have a lot of 80’s influences and you get a hint of it in Chemicals. In conclusion, this song rocks you and your mother.

Now some bonus goodies; the track listing, concert videos of the two songs and their lyrics:

They Say

I walked the line, the line I choose
I see the people in front of me
I climbed the wall, the wall of news
I watched them show the tragedy

If you were me, could you defend
the given rights to all of men?
Let’s fuck the world with all it’s trend
They say it’s all about to end…

They say it’s all about to end…
They say, they say…

There’s a prison that’s gone, but the fear lives on
I watched you walking on the dotted line
Maybe you don’t see what’s in front of me
Maybe you won’t stand the test of time
For we live in sin, for we will win
I watched the president kiss his family
For we live in sin, for we will win
I watched the president fuck society

If you were me, could you defend
the given rights to all the men?
Let’s fuck the world with all it’s trend
They say it’s all about to end…

They say it’s all about to end…
They say, they say…

I fall in love with the old times
I never mention my own mind
Let’s fuck the world with all it’s trend
Thank god, it’s all about to end…

They say it’s all about to end…
They say, they say…
They say, they say…
They say it’s all about to end

Chemicals

I smacked your face,
you fell in love when I said “FUCK YOUR MOM!”
I looked at you said “It’s all over!”

I turned around and walked away
and you just grabbed my arm
I looked at you said “I can’t stay sober”

Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals
Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals.

MADNESS! Feeling scared,
looking around and nobody there.
When I say “Fuck the world!”
let’s get ready to rock,
as I piss on your face while you suck on my cock.

MADNESS! No one cares,
looking around and nobody there,
when I say, “Fuck the world!”
let’s get ready to rock,
as I piss on your face while you suck on my cock.

Oh maybe, baby,
won’t you rape me, wont you fantasize
About the time when we were lovers?
I tried to phone you,
tried to warn you but no compromise
I grabbed your ass under the cover.

Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals
Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals

MADNESS! Feeling scared,
looking around and nobody there.
When I say “Fuck the world!”
let’s get ready to rock,
as I piss on your face while you suck on my cock.

MADNESS! No one cares,
looking around and nobody there,
when I say, “Fuck the world!”
let’s get ready to rock,
as I piss on your face while you suck on my cock.

Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals
Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals
Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals
Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals
Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals
Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals

MADNESS! Feeling scared,
looking around and nobody there.
When I say “Fuck the world!”
let’s get ready to rock,
as I piss on your face while you suck on my cock.

MADNESS! No one cares,
looking around and nobody there,
when I say, “Fuck the world!”
let’s get ready to rock,
as I piss on your face while you suck on my cock.

Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals!
Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals!
Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals!
Come eat some chemicals with me,
come eat some chemicals.
